The Indian Subcontinent provides suitable habitats to various species of birds for residing and nesting. Drongos are no exception in this regard. Various species of drongos have been recorded in India. Some of these drongos are described below.

Bronzed Drongo
Bronzed Drongo is a resident bird of India and has been traced in the Western Ghats, Eastern Ghats and western Uttaranchal. This is a bird with metallic gloss on the skin. Its head, neck and breast have a spangled appearance. The ear coverts are dull and the lores are velvety in appearance. The tail of the bird can be described as slender and well forked with the outer tail feathers flaring outward to little extent. The nominate race is found in India.

White-Bellied Drongo
White-Bellied Drongo is endemic to the Indian Subcontinent. This Drongo is a black bird and is devoid of the gloss on the upper body. The throat and breast of the bird are grayish. The tail is long and deeply forked. D. C. Caerulescens is known as the Indian race of White-Bellied Drongo. It"s under plumage from the head to the breast is pale grey in appearance. From the abdomen, the color of the skin changes to white and continues downwards.

Andaman Drongo
Andaman Drongo is endemic to the Andaman Islands of the Indian Ocean. It is a black colored bird with green gloss. The bill of the bird is also black in color. The primaries of the bird are brownish in appearance. The tail of the bird is deeply forked. The female Drongo can be identified in terms of a less forked tail and is smaller than the male Drongo. There are two subspecies of Andaman Drongo. The nominate race has been recorded across the main islands of the archipelago.

Black Drongo
Black Drongo is the resident bird of India. It has glossy black skin. Another identifiable feature of this bird is its wide fork to the tail. The adult bird has a small white spot at the base of the gape. The bird has dark brown iris. It is difficult to tell the male and female birds apart in the field.

Ashy Drongo
Ashy Drongo is a widespread resident of India. The adult bird is dark grey and has a long and deeply forked tail. Subspecies longicaudatus is found in India. This bird is very dark and has crimson iris and dark grey underside. It is devoid of white rictal spot.

Other Indian Drongos
Greater racket-tailed drongo, Lesser Racket-Tailed Drongo, Crow-Billed Drongo and Hair-Crested Drongo are the other drongos which have been recorded in India.
