Ikshwaku is one of the ten sons the lawgiver Manu Vaivaswata. Ikshwaku is regarded as the first prince of the solar dynasty. Ikshwaku reigned at Kosala in the second or Treta Yuga as Ayodhya being its capital. There were one hundred sons of Ikshwaku. According to the Vishnu Purana, Ikshwaku is said to have been born from the nostril of Manu when he happened to sneeze.
The most famous among all the Ikshwaku kings was king Rama, the son of Dasaratha. During the Rajasuya ceremony of Pandava king Yudhisthira, Ikshwakus along with Ailas mentioned as the prominent Kshatriya races of the time. King Suvala is mentioned as an Ikshwaku king and a friend of Sindhu king Jayadratha.
Many kings like Aja and Trishanku were mentioned as Ikshwaku kings.
