Holy Trinity Church was built in the English Renaissance style. It is considered as the largest military church in South India. The church can accommodate 700 people.
History of Holy Trinity Church
East India Company decided to build a second church in Bangalore after local English regiment had protested in Bengaluru. The spot of the church was chosen by Bishop Corrie. On February 16, 184 8 the foundation stone of the church was laid.
The walls were lined with ornate marble murals and tablets. It spoke about men and women who toiled for the church. Some of these statues were carved in England. The furnishing and embellishments were designed by Rev W Lutyens. The bell of the church was cast by Mears Foundry of London in 1847. The pulpit and pipe organ were built in London. Even the stained glass that depicts the baptism of Jesus and the baptismal pond were brought from London. Queen Victoria`s West Kent Regiment presented the cross in memory of those who died when the regiment was based there.
On July 25, 1852 the church was consecrated and opened on August 8, 1852. Post independence the church was taken over by the Christian Indian Military personnel and their families. Then it was known as Holy Trinity Garrison Pastorate. It was renamed as Holy Trinity Church in 1965 by the Mysore Diocese.
