The history of the temple dates back to the times of the Calicut Zamorin. The grandeur and glory of the Zamorin`s flourished mainly during the AD 700 to 1500. At the beginning of the period the Zamorin`s family shifted their royal residence from Kondotty to Calicut. Thus, Calicut became the Economic Capital and political Hub of the dynasty. The Zamorin then became engaged in expanding their territory. They invaded many other nearby territories. Thus, Valluvand and nearby territories came under his rule.
Later the Zamorin invaded Karimpuzha and declared Earalppad as the ruler of the province. Karimpuzha remained as the focal point and the prime importance of Zamorin`s kingdom. Zamorin continued his military invasions. Most of the areas coming under Palakkad belt was invaded regularly hence their ruling territory expanded.
Zamorin engaged themselves in the development of Karimpuzha during the period of AD 1000. Earalppad constructed a royal palatial palace, Ettukettu located on the banks of a river. The palace is flanked by 8 built up sides. Next they began repairing and reconstructing the temple. The temple is presumed to have been there long back even before the Zamorin`s invasion. During the renovation of the temple the face of the deity got shifted which is observed as a holy festival. This is celebrated on the day of the 3rd Thursday between the mid November-mid December every year. The idol of Sree Bhagavathy is has been sacredly installed near the Earalppad`s palace.
