Hirni Falls, JharkhandThe Hirni Falls of Ranchi is one of the most prominent tourist spots in Jharkhand. Hirni Falls is situated at 20 kilometres away from Khunti village. The Khunti village is located in the West Singhbhum District. It lies at the edge of Ranchi Plateau around Bandgaon District. Hirni Falls is formed by Ramgarha River that falls here from a height of 37 meters in a broad torrent. Its surroundings comprise a dense tropical forest that covers the falls.

Geography of Hirni Falls
Hirni falls is at the border of Ranchi plateau which is around Bandgaon. It trails its route from River Ramgarha. It is situated at 22 degree 48"27?N 85 degree 21"52?E.

Myths of Hirni Falls
There is a local mythological story behind the Hirni Falls. The local people residing near Hirni Falls believe that in the ancient times the rats can float on a piece of wood in the Ramgarha River. There is a clan named the Chutiyas. In the local dialect, the “Chutiyas” means the rats. The Purti Tribe of Jharkhand worships the rats. The name of the fall “Hirni Falls” is named after the abundance of deer in the area. The locals believe that the ancient people reside in the caves nearby the Hirni Falls. Even today, the limestone kohs (caves) deep inside the forests above are abode to beasts like Royal Bengal Tigers, bear and porcupine.

A deer park is situated at a distance of 2.6 miles away from Hirni Falls. There is also a rock garden which is a major tourist attraction and it is situated at a distance of 3.4 miles from Hirni falls. Hirni Fall is 22 kilometres away from Panchghagh Falls. From the car parking slot, there is a walkway to the left that takes the tourists to the other side of the river where a tourist hut waits to give the tourist a minimum comfort. Near the hut, there are steps that lead right to the top of the hill.

It takes 1 hour, 14 minutes to travel from Ranchi to Hirni Falls. The distance between Ranchi and Hirni Falls is 68 kilometres. Visitors can reach to Hirni falls through Ranchi-Chaibasa Road. Visitors can choose the option of Khunti which is only 20 kilometres away. The nearby landing airfield is Birsa Munda Airport.
