Hingolgadh Sanctuary was a hunting reserve for the royal family of Jasdan in Gujarat. This place of dense forest was used for grass collection. The area of Hingolgadh Sanctuary is reported to be having even leopards which were sighted right up to August 1991.

Hingolgadh Sanctuary of Gujarat is located in Jasdan taluka of Rajkot district. Hingolgadh Sanctuary is a green oasis of 654.07 hectares of land. Hingolgadh Sanctuary of Gujarat is placed on the dry plateau of Saurashtra of Gujarat. The area of Hingolgadh Sanctuary of Gujarat is hilly, rugged and undulating. Hingolgadh Sanctuary is famous for the herbivorous species are chinkara, nilgai (blue bull), Indian porcupine, Indian hare, mongoose etc. Wolf is abundantly fund in the grassland for the prey. With wolf, the carnivores like hyenas, jackals are also placed in this sanctuary. Hingolgadh Sanctuary is remarkably rich in birds with more than 230 species. It also has 19 species of snakes of which three are venomous and 16 non-venomous.

Monsoon is the best period to visit the Hingolgadh Sanctuary. Hingolgadh Sanctuary of Rajkot District in Gujarat was earlier known as `Motisari vidi`. This place was belonged to the ex-princely state of Jasdan.

Hingolgadh Sanctuary was declared as a `private forest` in 1973 and upgraded to `Wildlife Sanctuary` in 1980 and has been given special protection since then. Owing to its unique nature education features, the task of management and development of the sanctuary was handed over to G.E.E.R Foundation in 1984. From that time, Hingolgadh Sanctuary is being managed by the Foundation under the statutory control of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) of Gujarat. The Foundation manages the interpretation centre and campsite in the Sanctuary.
