Hasrat Jaipuri, Indian Movie LyricistHasrat Jaipuri was a prominent Indian film lyricist whose works are cherished in the Hindi film industry. He was a lauded Hindi and Urdu poet. He was a two time winner of the prestigious Filmfare Awards. His inclination towards poetry began at a very young age which gradually garnered him recognition and applauses in the film industry. His works have been honoured with various esteemed accolades.

Early Life of Hasrat Jaipuri
Hasrat Jaipuri was born on 15th April 1922 as Iqbal Husain in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Till medium level he studied English and later acquired his training in Urdu and Persian from Fida Husain, his paternal grandfather. Since the age of twenty years he started writing verses.

Career of Hasrat Jaipuri
Hasrat Jaipuri came to Bombay (now Mumbai) in the year 1940 and began working as a bus conductor. His monthly income during that time was eleven rupees. Along with his work, he used to participate in mushairas. He was noticed by Prithviraj Kapoor at a mushaira and the latter recommended his name to his son, Raj Kapoor. Back then Raj Kapoor was planning to make a musical love story titled Barsaat along with music composer duo Shankar-Jaikishan. Hasrat Jaipuri penned his first recorded song "Jiya Beqaraar Hai" for this movie. "Chhor Gaye Baalam" was his second song.

Till the year 1971 Hasrat Jaipuri wrote the lyrics for all Raj Kapoor films along with Shailendra. However, following the demise of Jaikishan and failures of Kal Aaj Aur Kal and Mera Naam Joker, Raj Kapoor turned to other lyricists. Kapoor then again invited him to author the lyrics for the film Ram Teri Ganga Maili and three songs for the flick Henna. Jaipuri also wrote lyrics for his fellow lyricist Shailendra who turned producer with the movie Teesri Kasam. In 1951 he wrote the screenplay for the Bollywood flick Hulchul. Hasrat Jaipuri had authored a number of books of poetry in Urdu as well as Hindi.

Achievements of Hasrat Jaipuri
Hasrat Jaipuri won Filmfare Best Lyricist Award in the years 1966 and 1972 for the songs "Baharon Phool Barsao" from Suraj and "Zindagi Ek Safar Hai Suhana" from Andaz respectively. He had also been honoured with Josh Malihabadi Award by Urdu Conference. He received Dr. Ambedkar Award for a Brajbhasha song "Jhanak Jhanak Tori Baaje Payaliya" from Mere Huzoor. The World University Round Table awarded Hasrat Jaipuri a doctorate.

Death of Hasrat Jaipuri
Hasrat Jaipuri died on 17th September 1999. He was survived by a daughter and two sons.
