Harshat Mata Temple, RajasthanHarshat Mata Temple, located at Abhaneri village in Dausa District of Rajasthan, is known for its architecture and sculpture. The temple is dedicated to Harshat Mata who is considered to be the goddess of joy and happiness. She is believed to be cheerful always and imparts her joy and happiness to the whole village. An annual fair is held here in honour of Harshat Mata that lasts for three days. Devotees from all over India come here to attend it.

Foundation of Harshat Mata Temple
Raja Chand had laid the foundation of this place. Many historians believe that Raja Chand is the mythological representation of Raja Bhoj, who ruled the Gurjar kingdom during the 9th century. The ruins of the temple support this belief with the 10th century architectural and sculptural styles.

Architecture of Harshat Mata Temple
This temple is one of the best examples of early medieval architecture in Rajasthan. The temple is at present under the protection of the Archaeological department of the Government of India. The ruins of the temple and pieces of sculptures and the carved pillars show the skilled craftsmanship. The sanctum sanctorum present in the temple has a dome like or circular based architecture. The sculpture of Harshat Mata is protected by boundaries all around, which are made of iron. There is a shrine of Lord Shiva near the main temple having the Shiva Panchayat in it.

Chand Baori near Harshat Mata Temple
Another attraction of this temple is the Chand Baori, a step well. This colossal step well is located in front of the Harshat Mata Temple. The huge tank with delicate carvings is certainly a delight to the eyes. The well has a depth of 100 feet and measures 35 meter on each side. This square shaped well has 3500 steps and is 13 storied. Each platform is connected by two sets of steps; these have perfect symmetry. The walls of Chand Baori have some beautiful and delicate carvings. This step well, Chand Baori was built during the 9th century.

Visiting Information to Harshat Mata Temple
The temple can be visited any time in a year. It is located 95 km away from Jaipur and it lies on the Jaipur-Agra road. The temple can easily be reached by buses or cars from Jaipur.
