Hari Parbat is one of the most popular sights in Srinagar. Located at a distance of 5 kms this hilltop is famous for the Durrani fort which was constructed in1808.It has the famous Shaktitemple on the western slope of the hill while the Muslim shrines of Khwaja Makhdoom sahib and Akhund Mullah Shah is located at the southern slope of the hill. On the southern side of the outer wall a gurdwara is located which commemorates the visit of Guru Hargobind Ji.

Hari Parbat is one of the well known historical sights of Srinagar which includes some main fortifications. Among these the first fortication took place when Mughal emperor Akbar constructed a fort in 1590. He built the outer wall of the fort and planned anew capital called Nagar Nagore which was to be established within the boundaries of the fort. Though the project did not fructify yet it displayed the idea of building a fort on the top of the hill. The present day hill was built during the reign of Shuja Shah Durrani which came to be known as Durrani Fort.

Along with this Hari Parbat is also famous for the ancient Shakti Temple of Ma Sharika. The temple is dedicated to Hindu goddess Jagadamba Sharika Bhagawati which is an incarnation of Goddess Durga. The deity has 18 arms and is considered as the presiding goddess of Srinagar. The shrine is represented by the Swayambhu Shrichakra which is also called Mahashriyantra which consists of a circular mystic impression and a triangular pattern of bindu. While this is one of the revered places of the Kashmiri pandits and Hindus who visit the temple on frequent occasions, there are some makhbaras as well which depict the secular character of Srinagar. The hill slope of Hari Parbat also includes the sacred shrine of Sheikh Hazma Makhdum. The shrine is towards the southern part of the slope. This double storied, many pillared shrine of Makhdoon Sahib attract tourists towards the exemplary architectural style of the shrine. Along with this there is a gurdwara which is known as Chatti Patshahi of Kathi Darwaja, Rainwari, srinagar. It is most popular gurdwara of the Sikhs located in Srinagar. This gurdwara is mainly associated with the visit of Guru Hargobind Singh Sahib.

Thus, marked with a number of religious places this area is also includes as a popular tourist sight of Srinagar which invited every one irrespective of his or her religion.
