Hari Krishna Premi was a Hindi theatre dramatist whose plays depict various kinds of love. Born in 1908 he has written poem for every one. He has written for family members and friends, society, country, and humanity beyond boundaries of caste and creed. Taking themes from the medieval period history of India, and greatly influenced by the Gandhian concept of love and equality, Premi propagated the theory of love in dramas. These were usually famous for dealing with contemporary problems. His first published work Swarna-vihan or "Golden Morning" in 1930 made a name asgitinatya or musical theatre.
In due course his important historical and social plays Rakshabandhan or "Bond that Protects" in 1934, Shiva sadhana or `Shivaji`s Austerities` in 1937, Ahuti or `Fire-offering` in 1940, Swapna bhanga or `Dream Shattered` in 1940, Vishpan i.e. `Drinking Poison` in 1945, Chhaya i.e. `Shadow` in 1945, and Mamta or `Affection` in 1958 were widely staged by Hindi theatre groups. Hari Krishna Premi died in 1974.
