Hamid Sayani was a much celebrated announcer on Indian Radio. He began his career with the Hindi Service of Radio Ceylon, which is the oldest radio station in Asia. He is the elder brother of Ameen Sayani who presented Binaca Geetmala, a weekly radio musical show of India film songs. Hamid Sayani was instrumental in guiding his younger brother to the world of audio entertainment. The reputed radio announcer was the main factor behind popularising Radio Ceylon across the Indian sub-continent. Millions of listeners unanimously praised his style of presenting shows on radio that was unique and innovative each time. The audiences of Hamid Sayani adorably called him the King of the Airwaves during the 1950s and 1960s in South Asia.
Hamid Sayani also worked along with his brother in many prestigious radio projects. His fame was undisputed during the era and probably it was his brother who reached that zenith of success that Hamid Sayani attained earlier. Although Hamid Sayani initially worked in several international radio programmes, later he started coming up with novel programmes on Indian radio.
