In order to establish connection with all the regions of the vast country of India, several passes are being constructed. Haldighati is one such mountain pass that is found in the Aravalli Range of the state of Rajasthan of Western India. This Haldighati pass links up districts like Rajsamand and Pali , almost forty kilometres from the Udaipur.
The word Haldighati too has got an etymological significance. According to some of the linguists, the term is supposed to have been taken from the turmeric-colored yellow soil. In fact, in the Hindi language, the word Haldi denotes turmeric.
After several years of survey , the historical significance of this Haldighati pass has rightly been accomplished by several of the Indian historians. In fact this Halighati pass deserves to be worth mentioning as it is the location of the historic Battle of Haldighati.It has occurred in the year 1576 and the contending parties were Rana Pratap Singh of Mewar and Raja Man Singh of Amber, general of the Mughal emperor Akbar.
So much so to immortalize the great battle of Haldighat a great classic poem has also been composed by the famous Shyam Narayan Pandey. To all the poetry lovers of Hindi language, this beautiful poems which bears the title of Haldighati` becomes a masterpiece.
The huge terrain that was evidently covered with blood arouses a chill in the spine even today also hence creates a feeling of nostalgia. Haldighati was the place where the gallant Chetak , the horse with his devoted faithfulness towards his gallant master ,the Maharana Pratap, bore witness to his value by collaborating till his last breath.
Here a `Chhatri` with delicate white marble is devoted both to the spirited hero and his faithful pony, is praiseworthy.
