Hakim Musammat Sati Al-Nisa was one of the lady physicians in the court of Shah Jahan. She was a resident of Amul, a city in the province of Mazandaran of Iran. Sati Al-Nisa was the sister of Talib Amuli, a poet laureate and sister-in-law of Hakim Rukna. Her deep affection towards her brother induced her to pay a visit to India to see him.

Hakim Musammat Sati Al-Nisa, a proficient physician, was also endowed with the qualities of a skilled domestic worker. She was appointed to the emperor`s court after the death of her husband. There she served as one of the personal female attendants to the queen. Her ability to serve and her conduct helped her gain the position of a `Seal Keeper.` Besides being a physician she was also well read in Persian prose and poetry. She was also equally skilled in the art of recitation of the Holy Quran. The emperor thus, entrusted her with the job of educating his beloved daughter, Shahzadi Jahanara.

Sati al-Nisa nurturing her skills and talent soon grabbed the attention of Queen Mumtaz Mahal. Her managerial ability earned her a special position in the palace. She was appointed as secretary to the Queen. After the death of Queen Mumtaz Mahal, the Emperor appointed her as Sadr-i Kul of the royal apartments. She was delegated an array of duties ranging from arranging for the Emperor`s meals to nursing and taking care of princes and princesses.

According to Muhammad Saleh Kanbuh, she possessed deep knowledge about medical treatments and was adept in curing complicated diseases. The sudden death of her brother Talib Amuli and her niece broke her down. Dejected and depressed she died of shock in 1646. Her body was kept preserved in Lahore for one year and then it was interned in a mausoleum built by the Emperor at a place on the western side of Taj Mahal.
