Gundibail Sunderam who is also known as Gundibail Rama Sunderam was an Indian test cricketer who played two international test matches in the year 1955. Tulu language was his mother tongue. He is a right hand batsman and the right arm fast medium bowler. He made his test debut against New Zealand at Delhi in the year 1955 from December 16 to December 21. His first class test cricket arena in domestic and international arena spanned from 1951 to 1968. His last cricket match was against New Zealand in the year 1955 on December 28 that spanned to January 2, 1956.
Gundibail Rama Sunderam was born on 29th March 1930 in Udupi District (Karnataka). He was a right arm fast medium bowler and a right hand batsman. He played with the major national teams in India like Mumbai Cricket Team and the Rajasthan Cricket Team. Gundibail Sunderam underwent the training in the cricket school run by Alf Gover in 1953.
He represented India in the unofficial test matches against the Silver Jubilee Overseas Cricket team, before appearing in Ranji Trophy matches in the later years. Gundibail Sunderam played two test matches which were against New Zealand. It was in the year 1955 to 1956. He took one of the two wickets when New Zealand Cricket Team made 450 runs for 2 in the Delhi Test and two more wickets in the next one. The presence of medium pacers like G. S. Ramchand and Dattu Phadkar, who were the contemporary in the domestic and the international cricket arena at that time made Gundibail Sunderam to perform with a team spirit.
Gundibail Sunderam represented Bombay Cricket Team and Rajasthan Cricket Team in the Ranji Trophy seasons. His son Pradeep Sundaram opened the bowling for Rajasthan Cricket Team in the 1980s and once took 10 wickets in an innings.
