During the 2016 IPL players" draft, Rajkot franchise picked Indian cricketers Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja, along with Brendon McCullum, James Faulkner and Dwayne Bravo. In an event held in New Delhi, the Rajkot based team was named as Gujarat Lions and Suresh Raina was announced as their captain. The team would play five of their home matches at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium Rajkot and two of their home matches at Green Park Stadium Kanpur in the Vivo Indian Premier League 2016.

Bradley John Hodge is an Australian and Victorian cricketer. He attended St. Bede`s College in Mentone, Victoria. He is a right-handed batsman who bats in the middle order, as well as a part-time right-arm off-spin bowler. He is now serving as the Head Coach of Gujarat Lions.

Shitanshu Kotak
Shitanshu Hargovindbhai Kotak was an Indian first-class cricketer. A left-handed batsman, Shitanshu Hargovindbhai Kotak has been a fertile run scorer for Saurashtra. Now Shitanshu Hargovindbhai Kotak is the coach of Saurastra Cricket Team. He is now in Gujarat Lions Indian Premier League team as Assistant Coach.

Heath Hilton Streak
Heath Hilton Streak is a former Zimbabwean cricketer. He made his test debut in Zimbabwe`s tour of Pakistan 1993-1994. He won the Man of the series award in that series taking 22 wickets at an average of 13.54. He bettered his best bowling figures in 1995 when Pakistan toured Zimbabwe taking 6/90 in the first Test at Harare. He is the bowling coach of Gujarat Lions.
