Rihand Super Thermal Power Station is located at Renukut in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. Owned and operated by NTPC Limited, the coal-fired power plant has an installed capacity of 3,000MW. The plant supplies electricity to various states in the northern part of India, including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Chandigarh.

Rihand Super Thermal Power Station is a 3,000 MW power plant with six 500 MW units. The First unit was commissioned in March 1988 while the sixth unit was commissioned in October 2013. The coal for the plant is derived from Amlori and Dudhichua mines in Madhya Pradesh. The water source is from Rihand Dam which is constructed on Son River.
