Governor of Uttar Pradesh is the constitutional head of Uttar Pradesh. The President of India appoints the Governor for a term of 5 years. The Governor"s powers and functions at the state level are similar to those of the President of India at Union level. Sarojini Naidu was the first Governor of Uttar Pradesh and Ram Naik is the present Governor from 2014.

Sarojini Naidu
Sarojini Naidu was the first and inaugural Governor of Uttar Pradesh in independent India from 15th August 1947 to 2nd March 1949. She played a leading role in the Civil Disobedience Movement and was jailed along with Mahatma Gandhi and other leaders. In 1942, she was arrested during period of the "Quit India Movement".

Justice B.B. Malik
Justice B.B. Malik was the second acting Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 3rd March 1949 to 1st May 1949.

Hormasji Peroshaw Mody
After Independence of India, Hormasji Peroshaw Mody was the 3rd Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 2nd May 1949 to 1st June 1952. He was also the director of the Tata Groups and Central Bank of India.

Kanhaiyalal Manaklal Munshi
Kanhaiyalal Manaklal Munshi was the 4th Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 2nd June 1952 to 9th June 1957. He was a well-known name in Gujarati literature. He founded Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, an educational trust.

Varahgiri Venkatgiri
Varahgiri Venkatgiri was the 5th Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 10th June 1957 to 30th June 1960. He was honoured by the Government of India with the Bharat Ratna in 1975. He was sworn in as President of India on 1969.

Dr. Baragula Rama Krishna Rao
Dr. Baragula Rama Krishna Rao was the 6th Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 1st July 1960 to 15th April 1962. He was also the Chief Minister of Hyderabad.

Biswanath Das
Biswanath Das was the 7th Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 16th April 1962 to 30th April 1967. He was also the Chief Minister of Odisha.

Bezawada Gopala Reddy
Bezawada Gopala Reddy was the 8th Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 1st May 1967 to 30th June 1972. He was also Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and was popularly known as "Andhra Tagore" for translating Rabindranath Tagore"s works in Telugu.

Shashi Kanta Verma
Shashi Kanta Verma was the 9th acting Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 1st July 1972 to 13th November 1972.

A. A. Khan
A. A. Khan was the 10th Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 14th November 1972 to 24th October 1974. He was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1965 for organizing help and relief to the widowed women.

Dr. Marri Chenna Reddy
Dr. Marri Chenna Reddy became the 11th Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 25th October 1974 to 1st October 1977. He was among the stalwarts who headed the Telangana movement of Andhra Pradesh in the late 1960s.

Ganpatrao Devji Tapase
Ganpatrao Devji Tapase was the 12th Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 2nd October 1977 to 27th February 1980. He has also participated in many freedom struggle movements.

Chandeshwar Prasad Narayan Singh
Chandeshwar Prasad Narayan Singh became the 13th Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 28th February 1980 to 31st March 1985. He was also as an Indian freedom fighter, diplomat and administrator.

Mohammed Usman Arif
Mohammed Usman Arif was the 14th Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 31st March 1985 to 11th February 1990.

B. Satya Narayan Reddy
B. Satya Narayan Reddy became the 15th Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 12th February 1990 to 25th May 1993. He has participated in the Quit India Movement in 1942 and in the Hyderabad Peoples" Movement in 1947.

Motilal Vora
Motilal Vora was the 16th Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 26th May 1993 to 3rd May 1996. He belonged to the Indian National Congress. He is the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.

Mohammad Shafi Qureshi
Mohammad Shafi Qureshi became the acting Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 3rd May 1996 to 19th July 1996 and again from 17th March 1998 to 19th April 1998.

Romesh Bhandari
Romesh Bhandari was the 17th Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 19th July 1996 to 17th March 1998. He has the credit of bringing back to India, hijackers of an Indian Airlines Aircraft from Dubai in 1984.

Mohammad Shafi Qureshi
Mohammad Shafi Qureshi became the 18th Governor of Uttar Pradesh again for a short term from 17th March 1998 to 19th April, 1998.

Suraj Bhan
Suraj Bhan became the 19th Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 20th April 1998 to 23rd November 2000.

Vishnu Kant Shastri
Vishnu Kant Shastri was the 20th Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 24th November 2000 to 2nd July 2004. He was also an academician, scholar, poet, philosopher, author, critic, orator, editor and administrator.

Sudarshan Agrawal Sudarshan Agrawal became the 21st acting Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 3rd July 2004 to 7th July 2004.

T. V. Rajeswar
T. V. Rajeswar was the 22nd Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 8th July 2004 to 28th July 2009. He was an Indian Police Service officer and an Intelligence Bureau chief. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2012.

Banwari Lal Joshi
Banwari Lal Joshi became the 23rd Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 28th July 2009 to 23rd June 2014.

Aziz Qureshi
Aziz Qureshi became the 24th acting Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 23rd June 2014 to 22nd July 2014.

Ram Naik
Ram Naik served as the 25th Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 22nd July 2014 to 28th July, 2019. He belongs to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Anandiben Patel
Anandiben Patel is serving as the 26th Governor of Uttar Pradesh starting her term from 29th July 2019. She belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
