The Government Museum at Chennai in the state of Tamil Nadu was established in the year 1851. The type of the museum is that of multipurpose.

Objects that have been displayed in the museum include archaeological and anthropological elements. Other than this there are also a variety of numismatics, zoological, Amaravati sculptures, western and modern paintings, palm leaf manuscripts, natural history, botanical, textiles and geological objects. In addition to these objects, there are also bronze images and objects of children`s interest.

People who are eager to view the museum may visit between 9:30am to 5pm except on Fridays and National holidays.
