Government Medical College, Thrissur, KeralaThe Government Medical College (GMC), Thrissur is well known and one of the most reputed medical institutions in Kerala. The college was established by the Government of India on 1st April, 1982 and is currently operating under the Directorate of Medical Education, Government of Kerala. The college started its journey at Mannuthy and it was shifted to its permanent site at Mulagunnathukavu in March, 1983. The college has been offering quality education in the field of medical science, since its inception and it has a lot of contribution in the health department of the district, as well.

The Government Medical College (GMC), Thrissur offers a large number of course in various disciplines of medical science. The college offers the course at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The main undergraduate courses offered by the college include the MBBS Degree Course, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Course of Ophthalmic Assistant etc. The postgraduate courses offered in GMC, Thrissur include MD in Radio Diagnosis, and General Medicine. The college also offers some other courses like Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), Certified Radiology Assistant`s (CRA) Course, Ophthalmic Assistant`s Course, DNB in General Medicine, and Specialized Senior House Surgeoncy.

The first batch of 74 students was admitted in the Government Medical College (GMC), Thrissur in April 1982 and they completed their course in May, 1987. The college got permanent recognition by the Indian Medical Council in 1991 and WHO recognised it in 1993. The college started offering MD Radio-diagnosis courses from 1997 and the MD general medicine courses were started in 2004.

The Government Medical College (GMC), Thrissur has earned a lot of recognition for its wonderful academic performance and it has some great achievements, as well. The Mammography with Stereotactic biopsy - first sophisticated mammography system was installed in India for the first time in this college. The H.P.L.C was also installed in this college for the first time in India. The college has received First prize in the 21st All Kerala Inter-Medicos youth festival held at Government Medical College, Thrissur in 2003. It also got First prize in the prestigious State-level inter-collegiate youth festival held as part of the silver jubilee celebrations of Government Medical College, Thrissur on 25th November, 2006.
