Gharaunda is a major town in Karnal district of the northern state of India, Haryana. The district headquarters is in the city of Karnal, which is situated 18 km. south of Gharaunda. Delhi is located in the north of Delhi at a distance of 106 km. The nearest airport is at New Delhi and the nearest railway station is the Gharaunda Railway Station on the Delhi -Ambala line. It is located between 29.54° North latitude and 76.97° East longitude. The topography is generally flat at an average elevation of 237 metres above mean sea level.
According to the 2001 census report, Gharaunda had a population of 30,179. Males account for 54% of the population and females constitute 46% of the population.
