Ghezing, Western SikkimGhezing or Gyalshing is the capital of the district of West Sikkim in the Indian state of Sikkim. The town is connected to the capital Gangtok by a metalled road. Ghezing is also connected to the West Bengal towns of Darjeeling and Kalimpong via Jorethang. A few kilometres north is the town of Pelling. The town has a large Nepali population and the Nepali language is the predominant language of the region. The town is situated at an altitude of about 6500 feet (1900 m). The town enjoys a temperate climate for most of the year and snow sometimes falls in the vicinity. One of the major reasons for Ghezing being a popular tourists" attraction is the cold climate of the place which often gives a chance to see snowfall, especially in winters. Along with that, the town offers trekking adventures in the Himalayas that can be extended to Mount Kanchenjunga.

Apart from the magnificent natural beauty of Ghezing, this place is also famous for its various monasteries that are largely visited by Buddhist pilgrims. Other than that, there are various amazing places to visit in Ghezing.

Ghezing has a couple of English medium schools including a convent school and a major hospital. It also has the district"s only three star hotel The Tashi Gang Hotel owned by the Bollywood actor Danny Denzongpa.

Tourism in Ghezing
The place has got very enchanting atmosphere with pleasant hilly surroundings. With its Himalayan base, Ghezing allows tourists to enjoy trekking and mountaineering in the region. Apart from that, the prime tourist attractions at Ghezing include Hin Shan Gompa, Yuksom, Pemayangtse monastery and Varsey.


Hin Shan Gompa - A small monastery, Hin Shan Gompa, home to a handful of Bhutanese monks, is 30mins walk up out of town and offers excellent views of Kanchenjunga.
Yuksom - Near Ghezing is the ancient town of Yuksom, the ancient capital of Sikkim built in 1642. While the district headquarters are at Ghezing, the real adventure begins from Yuksom, which serves as the base camp for unforgettable treks into the wilds of the mountains.
Pemayangtse Monastery - The Pemayangtse Monastery is one of the famous monasteries of the place housing the incredible wooden carving known as "Sangthokpalri" which depicts the various realms of Buddhism.
Pelling - Pelling is the other chief attraction of this place. It is 10 kms from Ghezing and offers the breathtaking views of peaks like Rathong, Kumbhakarna, Kanchenjunga, Narsing, Koktang, Kabru, Shimbho, Pandim and Siniyalchu.
Varsey - Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary located in Western Sikkim houses variety of flora and fauna. Varsey has been popular for its Rhododendron Sanctuary.

Other attractions include Pemayangtse monastery built in 1640, reputed to be Sikkim`s oldest and Khecheopalri Lake which as legend has it not a leaf is allowed to float on the surface. The town is the base for trekking in the Himalayas and professional expeditions to Mount Kanchenjunga.

Climate of Ghezing
Ghezing experiences emperate type of climate in the summer months. The season is ideal for sightseeing in the region. Winters here on the other hand, are very harsh and cold. Therefore, it"s better to visit the place in summers.

How to Reach Ghezing
Bagdogra Airport, located in West Bengal, at a distance of 124 km from Ghezing is the nearest airport to reach this place. Airport is served with taxi and other services to reach the mains of Ghezing. The nearest railhead to reach Ghezing is New Jalpaiguri Railway Station, located at the distance of 118 kms. Buses and other roadways services are also available for tourist from various parts of the country that connect to Ghezing.
