Gauri Shankar, Indian Chess PlayerGauri Shankar is a well known young chess player from India who had won 27 international junior chess medals when he was merely 14 years of age. He is currently a FIDE master, a title he won in 2008, and continues to show great promise in the game of chess. Shankar has beaten and tied with several Grandmasters and International Masters in his brief chess career.

Early life of Gauri Shankar
Gauri Shankar was born on 1st October in the year 1992. This young Indian chess prodigy at the age of 13 has won 23 International junior chess medals. So far in his chess career, he has also drawn and defeated many International Masters. 16-year old Arjun Vishnuvardhan, the elder brother of Gauri, is a National Chess Master and Championed at the 2006 National G/60 Chess of the United States.

Career of Gauri Shankar
The current FIDE rating of Gauri is 2219. Gauri Shankar was made the National Chess Champion of India for Under-7 boys during 1999-2000, Aurangabad, India. He went on to win the British Junior Under-10 Chess Championship three consecutive times in 2001 to 2003, and it is as yet the only hat-trick in the British title`s history. Gauri Shankar has won several other international tournaments, notably, the US Natioanl K-12 Quick Chess Championship held at 2004, and the 2006 Chicago International Open Chess Championship, where he was winner in the class-A section. Although very young, he had 23 International Medals when merely 13, thereby cementing his repute in the world of chess.

Gauri Shankar has played several notable matches against M Pasalic, Igor Sorkin, G Hernandez, P Karagianis, I M Tsyganov, A Vishnuvardhan, R Hess, A Chow, Miron Sher and N Adams. Arjun Vishnuvardhan is the elder brother of Gauri Shankar and is the 2006 National G/60 Chess Champion of USA and an International Chess Master.
