Garhakota is a prominent town in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh. Garhakota is located at a distance of 45 km in the east of Sagar, the district headquarters. The nearest airport is at Bhopal. Paraonria, on the Bina-Katni section of Central Railways, is the closest railway station. It is located between 23.77° North latitude and 79.15° East longitude at a height of 373 metres (1223 feet) above mean sea level.
According to the 2001 India census report, Garhakot had a population of 26,877. Males constitute 52% of the population and females constitute 48% of the population. In Garhakota,16% of the population is less than six years of age. Garhakota has an average literacy rate of 67% which is higher than the national average literacy rate is 59.5%. The male literacy rate is 77% and the female literacy rate is 57%.
Noradehi Wildlife Sanctuary, which offers a sight of rare wild animals is located at a stone`s throw distance and is a major tourist destination. Other tourist destinations include Sagar, Rehli and Rahatgarh.
