Ganganagar District is situated in the northernmost part of the state of Rajasthan. The India-Pakistan international border is situated along the western tip of the city.

Ganganagar District, RajasthanGanganagar district is situated in the northernmost part of the state of Rajasthan. It is situated at the point where the waters of the Sutlej River enter Rajasthan. The city of Ganganagar located here. It is said to be one of the most well planned cities of India, laid along the plans of the city of Paris. It is divided into residential blocks and commercial area which includes Dhan Mandi. Residential Blocks have large parks for each Blocks and Community centres and places of worship are at junctions of three or four blocks. The district of Ganganagar is dependent on agriculture to a great extent. The city has cotton ginning and pressing factories, mustard oil mills and sugar mills. It also has spinning and textile factories. Due to its prosperity from agriculture, Ganganagar District also has a large number of automobiles and the automobile market is also quite big. The main language spoken by the people in the district is Bagri and the Punjabi language.

Location of Ganganagar District
Ganganagar district lies along the northernmost tip of the state of Rajasthan to the east of Hanumangarh District. At its western tip lies the Indo-Pak international border along the Thar Desert in India. Ganganagar is situated on the border of India and Pakistan Ganganagar is 54 km from Hanumangarh and is connected to the rest of Rajasthan through a fairly good network of roads.

History of Ganganagar District
Before the advent of Gang Canal, there was a small hamlet called Ramu ki Dhani which later became known as Ramnagar. After the completion of Gang canal it was renamed as Sri Ganganagar after Maharaja Ganga Singh. Before the partition of India Sri Ganganagar used to come under the state of Bikaner. Now both Bikaner and Sri Ganganagar come under Rajasthan, which is the biggest state of India. Rajasthan is famous for its historical buildings; but Sri Ganganagar does not have any of them, the reason being that it is fairly new.

Culture of Ganganagar District
Sri Ganganagar`s culture is a mixture of advanced and traditional culture. In one part of Ganganagar, people can be seen living a very simple and traditional lifestyle imbued in culture. On the other side live people who are up-to-date with the latest trends who follow a western lifestyle.

Education in Ganganagar District
The city has been a centre of learning since its early ages. This city has a large portion of land which is dedicated to educational institutes. Most of the population of Ganganagar is educated. There are a number of schools and famous colleges located here. Notable educational institutions from the city include: Bhopal Wala Arya Higher Sen. Sec. School, Saint Soldier Public School (7A, outskirts of the city), Guru Harkrishan Public School, Sri Guru Nanak Khalsa Higher Sen. Sec. School (Since 1939), B. S. F Senior Secondary School, Good Shepherd Public School and many other schools. Colleges in the district include Sri Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Seth G. L. Bihani S. D. (P. G.) College, Sri Guru Nanak Khalsa Law College, Govt. Law College, Maharshi Dayanand (PG) College, CH. Ballu Ram Godara Girls College, CH. Malu Ram Bhambu Government Polytechnic College among others.

Economy of Ganganagar District
The economy of Ganganagar District is dependent on agriculture to a large extent. Ganganagar is a major agriculture-based industry centre in the state of Rajasthan. The major crops grown here are cotton, mustard, chana, wheat, guar etc.

Tourism in Ganganagar District
The city is surrounded with many canals which come out from Gang Canal and these canals and water ways make some beautiful places for picnics and sight seeing. There are many places around the city, like Teen-Puliya (three bridges) which are most visited by city folks on weekends and holidays. Other famous spots are Shivpur-head and Sadhuwali-head. The city is surrounded by lush green farms and orchards. The best time to visit is during February to March when Mustard fields are covered with yellow flowers, and during October to November when cotton fields are covered with White Cotton. There are many religious places which are very famous. The famous Gurudwara of Sri Budha-johd is one of them. It is 85 km south west of the city. There are many other religious places also. Sri Jagadamba Andh Mahavidyalya is also a famous institute for education of the Blind and said to be one of the biggest education institutes of visually, hearing and speech impaired people in India and is also worth visiting. The ruins of the Harappa, Mohenjodaro and Kalibangan civilizations are found in Baror Village which is on the Anupgargh Ramsinghpur road and these are well worth a visit.
