The Ganesha Shodasa Nama Stotram is one of the most popular stotras or mantras of Lord Ganesha. It is mentioned in the 24th Prakarana of the Upasana Khanda of the Ganesha Purana which is exclusively devoted to the elephant-faced deity. The devotional hymn is believed to be inculcated with the divine blessings of Lord Ganesha. The devotees of Ganesha recite the stotram daily to achieve the blessings of the Lord and gain success and prosperity.

Lambhodarascha Vikato Vignarajo Vinayaka.,

Vakra Thunda Soorpakarno Herambha Skanda Poorvaja.
Shodasaithani Namani Ya Padeth Srunuyadhapi,
Vidhyarambhe Vivahe Cha Pravese, Nirgame Thadha,
Sangrame Sarvakarye Cha Vigna Sthasya Na Jayathe.
The Ganesha mantra describes the elephant god as a deity with a pleasing face, a single broken tusk and reddish black complexion. Ganesha is depicted with a big pot-belly and is considered as the remover of obstacles and unkind to His enemies. Ganesha is the leader of the removers of obstacles and the president of Shiva`s divine army (Ganas). He is also portrayed in grey complexion and has a crescent moon above his forehead. The hymn mentions that Ganesha has broad elephant ears. He is the son of Lord Shiva and the elder brother of Lord Kartikeya (Skanda).
It is believed that if a devotee chants or hears the Ganesha Shodasa Nama Stotram and remembers the names of Ganesha, then he would not face any obstructions or hindrances during the departure or return from a journey; during the commencement of education and examination; during combats or conflicts; during marriage ceremony or any other affair. The person will also receive the blessings of Lord Ganesha and attain success.
