Gandipalem Reservoir also called the Gandipalem state reservoir and was built with the objective to save many villages in Udaygiri Mandal from famine in summer season. Another objective of building this dam was to support irrigation for around 600 km² in faraway places from river Pennar.
The main source of the Gandipalem reservoir is river Manneru, which is a tributary to the river Pennar. The 130 km length River Manneru starts near Pillipalli village of Kanigiri taluk of Prakasam district. Dokkalavagu, Uppuvagu, Pillaperu and Upputeru are the main tributaries of this river. Gandipalem is a small village in Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh.
