Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex is the home ground of Football Club Pune City. Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex is located in Belewadi of Pune. The Sports Complex was built in the year 1994 for the National Games 1994, which was hosted by Pune. The 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games were hosted here. In the year 2008, World Junior Table Tennis Circuit was successfully held here. The 2009 FIVB Men`s Junior World Championship was held here. It was won by Brazil. The city is also the host of FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship for Women 2009.

In the early 2014, it was announced that the All India Football Federation (AIFF), the National Federation for Football in India, and IMG-Reliance would be accepting bids for ownership of eight of nine selected cities for the Indian Super League. Indian Super League is an eight-team franchise league modelled along the lines of the Indian Premier League cricket tournament, English Premier League and Pro Kabaddi League. On 13th April 2014, it was announced that the Bollywood actor Salman Khan and the Wadhawan Group had won the bidding for the Pune franchise. After that this football team gained its name Football Club Pune City. The Italian football club ACF Fiorentina owns a 15 percent stake in the franchise of Pune football Club.
