Floorball in India is one of the famous games after hockey, cricket and football. In 21st Century, it is gaining popularity among the school and college students.

The Floorball Federation of India was established in 2001. However, due to a lack of teamwork they were not able to give floorball a push even after 10 years. So the International Floorball Federation decided to dismiss it and formed a new federation, the Indian Floorball Federation in 2012.

It was a major step when Dr. Prabhat Kumar (IAS) took over the responsibility as President and made the organization transparent gaining popularity day-by-day.

There have been national Floorball championships held in different states of India and the top most dominating teams are Delhi and Uttrakhand. India has participated in many international floorball tournaments and now Indian Floorball Federation is an ordinary member of International Floorball Federation.

After gaining popularity in India, Floorball has different team on the basis of the states of India. The teams of Floorball of India, which are approved by the Floorball Federation of India are Delhi Strikers FBC representing Delhi, Noida and Gurgaon, Madhya Pradesh Smashers FBC representing Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh Quick Silver FBC representing Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana Warriors FBC representing Haryana, Punjab Lions FBC representing Punjab, Ranchi Pirates FBC representing Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal.

Differences from Hockey
The major difference between the two is that the rules of floorball do not allow for any high sticking, stick contact or body contact, so the game tends to be less physical than floor Hockey and more skill oriented and fast paced. Floor ball is played using a stick with a curved and concave plastic blade. The shaft is shorter than a traditional hockey stick and round, which make it very maneuverable . This design allows for a shot that is more of a whipping or flicking type of motion as opposed to a slap shot. The stick of floorball is not permitted to be above the waist on the back or fore stroke when taking a shot. There is no puck or heavy ball, instead a lightweight, plastic ball similar to whiffle ball is used. The ball is extremely fast and can be easily lifted, bounced and deflected. The rules of the game require fair play and promote heighten participation among all students.
