Fatima Begum was the first female director. She was one of the early superstars of Indian Cinema. Fatima Begum was born to an Urdu Muslim family in the year 1892. Fatima Begum married Nawab of Sachin. The Fatima Begum was the first female director in India. She was one of the early superstars of Indian Cinema. Fatima Begum was born to an Urdu Muslim family in the year 1892. Fatima Begum married Nawab of Sachin. The couple was blessed with three children. They are Zubeida, Sultana and Shehzadi. This stupendous persona started acting in Urdu plays and then in films. She debuted in Ardeshir Irani`s silent film, Veer Abhimanyu in the year 1922.

In the year 1926 she founded Fatima Films which became famous as Victoria-Fatima Films in the later years. She also acted in Alam Ara. She debuted as a director in the year 1926 with the film Bulbul-e-Paristan. This movie was in the style of the oriental extravaganza which would remain popular until the 1960s. As an actress her last film Duniya Kya Hai in the year 1938.

Her other three popular films were Heer Ranjha, Naseeb Ka Devi and Shakuntala. Fatima died in 1983 at the age of 91.
