Filmfare Award for Best Supporting ActorFilmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor is one of the four acting awards in Filmfare Awards, along with Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, presented to the actor who delivers the most arresting and appealing performance in a supporting role in a Hindi film of the preceding year. The category was introduced in the following year of the commencement of Filmfare Awards, along with the Best Supporting Actress award in 1955.

The Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor has been presented the most number of times to established and recognised actors like Pran, Amitabh Bachchan, Amrish Puri, Anil Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan, each of them having been honoured 3 times. Abhishek Bachchan holds the distinct and unmatched record of winning this award three years in a row, in 2005, 2006 and 2007 respectively, for his performance in films "Yuva", "Sarkar" and "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" respectively. Pran and Amitabh Bachchan holds the maximum number of nominations in this category, with 9 each. Anil Kapoor is the oldest and the youngest winner in this category, having won at 28 at 59 years of age respectively, while Amitabh Bachchan nominated at 63 is the oldest nominee. Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah with 8 nominations has the most number of nominations without ever winning.

Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor at 61st Filmfare Awards
In the 61st Filmfare Awards held in January 2016, 5 noted actors were nominated for their performances in their films of 2015, namely Anil Kapoor for "Dil Dhadakne Do", Deepak Dobriyal for "Tanu Weds Manu Returns", Jimmy Sheirgill for "Tanu Weds Manu Returns", Nawazuddin Siddiqui for "Badlapur" and Sanjay Mishra for "Masaan".

The award was presented to Anil Kapoor for his vibrant and strong portrayal of a pompous and business-minded father in Zoya Akhtar"s ensemble "Dil Dhadakne Do".
