Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer is awarded by Filmfare every year in its Filmfare Awards, to the male singer who lends his playback voice to a song of a Hindi film in the previous year and makes it most melodic and delightful to listen to. Introduced in 1959, five years after the inception of Filmfare Awards, best playback singer was a single award up till 1967, for both the female and the male singers. From 1968 onwards, it has been given as two separate categories for female and male singers.
Prominent Records in Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer
Eminent singer Kishore Kumar holds the maximum records in the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer, having the most number of wins with 8, most nominations with 27, most nominations in a single year with 4 in 1985 and the oldest winner and nominee at the age of 57.
Renowned singer Mohammad Rafi has won the award 6 times and also holds the feat of having all the nominations in a single year, with all 3 in 1969, along with Kishore Kumar who was the single nominee in 1985 with all 4 nominations, incidentally all from a single movie "Sharaabi".
Singers Kumar Sanu and Udit Narayan both have won the award 5 times, with Kumar Sanu winning all five consecutively, from 1991 to 1995, holding the record for most consecutive wins. Udit Narayan holds a unique record of receiving nominations in three different decades and has won the award in all the three decades.
Singer Mukesh has won the award four times; Mahendra Kapoor thrice and the singers namely Sonu Nigam, Shaan, Sukhwinder Singh, Mohit Chauhan have won it twice. Himesh Reshammiya is the first music director to win this award, in 2006. Arijit Singh has won it for four times.
