Film Making Studios in IndiaA Film Studio is an environment, interior or exterior, designed specifically for the production of motion pictures. These film studios are owned and operated by film production companies and also let out on rent to companies who do not own their own studios. Most studios house at least a series of sound stages, a controlled exterior of standing exterior settings and open land.

Bombay Talkies was the first Indian film production house and movie studio, established in 1934 in the present suburb of Malad in Mumbai. The other well-known film production studios in India include Film City, Filmistan, Mehboob Studio, R. K. Studio, Ramoji Film City, Wadia Movietone, YRF Studios and more.

Mehboob Studios is a prominent film and recording studio located in Bandra, Mumbai. It was established by film director and producer Mehboob Khan in 1954, the studio has introduced several stars of Bollywood like Nadira, Ashok Kumar, Nargis, Nimmi, Sunil Dutt, Rajendra Kumar and Raaj Kumar. Films like "Anmol Ghadi" (1946), "Andaz" (1949), "Mother India" (1957), "Dabangg 2" (2012) and "Chennai Express" (2013) have been filmed here.

Wadia Movietone is an erstwhile noted Indian film production studio based in Mumbai, established in 1933 by Wadia brothers J. B. H. Wadia and Homi Wadia. The studio was most prominent for producing stunt, fantasy and mythological films, including the 1935 Hindi film "Hunterwali". Ramoji Film City is one of the most professionally planned film production centres of the world, located on the outskirts of twin cities Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The integrated studio is popular among film circles across the globe, not only for its visual feast but also for its multimedia and editing suit techniques. Established by entrepreneur-cum-producer Ramoji Rao, it is a popular tourism and recreation centre, with natural and artificial attractions including an amusement park.

Film City is an integrated film studio complex located near the Sanjay Gandhi National Park at Goregaon East in Mumbai. It houses multiple recording rooms, theatres and grounds that serve the venue of many Bollywood film shoots. It was built in 1977 by the State Government to provide facilities and concessions to the film industry. Planned and executed under the guidance of V. Shantaram, Film City has been the shooting location for almost all Bollywood films. It has varied locations, including a temple, prison, lake, garden and a man-made waterfall.

R. K. Studio is a studio established by and named after the legendary Raj Kapoor, headquartered at Chembur, Mumbai. Filmistan is a studio based at Goregaon, Mumbai. Spread over 5 acres, the studio has 7 shooting floors, a temple and a garden for outdoor locations. Founded in 1943, it is one of the oldest and most iconic film studios of Mumbai.
