Faizabad District is one of the administrative districts of Uttar Pradesh. Faizabad town is the district headquarters. The city of Faizabad, originally known as `Fyzabad`, is situated on the bank of River Saryu, about 130 kms east of Lucknow. The city was founded by Alivardi Khan, Nawab of Bengal (1676-1756) in 1730. The foundation of Faizabad was laid by Saadat Khan, the second Nawab of Awadh. The ruins of the ancient town of Ayodhya, with the modern town standing nearby, are located across the River Saryu and form a part of Faizabad. Faizabad is a small developing city.

Faizabad District has a moderate and normal climate. The effect of rains, winter and summer are not very harsh. So, a pleasant whether remains throughout the year in this district. Hand made paper works and leather works are the popular crafts of Faizabad District.
