This stadium was designed by one of India"s premier architect – Hafeez Contractor. D. Y. Patil Stadium has all the facilities of an International Cricket Stadium.

Cricket Matches in D.Y. Patil Stadium
D. Y. Patil Stadium was formally inaugurated on 4th March 2008, and is the official ground for one of the Indian Premier League franchisee, Pune Warriors India. It hosted 3 matches and the finals of 2008 IPL. The stadium was the home ground for the Pune Warriors India for 2011 seasons. In IPL 2010, it hosted 6 matches including the opening match, the semi-finals, the third place playoff and the final. It was also named one of the three home grounds of the Deccan Chargers for their 2010 campaign.

Football Matches in D.Y. Patil Stadium
In 2014, it was announced that D.Y. Patil Stadium will be the home ground of the Indian Super League franchise Mumbai City FC. All Mumbai City FC home matches were played in D.Y. Patil stadium. It also hosted the Final of Hero ISL 2014 between Atletico de Kolkata and Kerala Blasters FC. The stadium also hosted 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup. It was picked over Cooperage Ground.

D. Y. Patil Stadium has a capacity of 60,000 people. This makes the stadium the 9th largest cricket ground in India. The stadium makes use of bucket seats and cantilever roofs that eliminate the need for columns.

Facilities of D. Y. Patil Stadium
D. Y. Patil Stadium offers state of the art facilities to the players and has 9 tennis courts, 4 indoor badminton courts and an Olympic sized swimming pool. There are also around 10 practise pitches in the campus next to the main campus. Players are provided with comfortable dressing rooms, where the facilities of ice-baths and recovery areas are also included.

Roof: A unique feature of the stadium is the cantilever roof which eliminates the need for any supports thus providing the spectators with an unobstructed view of the match from any place within the stand. The roof of the stadium is made from a special fabric imported from Germany. It happens to be India`s first and largest fabric roof.

Lighting and other Electronic Equipments: It is also the first cricket stadium in India to have a full fledged concert level reinforced music system. As for lighting, the masts that are there, are the tallest in India and provides excellent lighting system. Moreover the goof quality illumination also ensures that the stadium is properly prepared for latest TV technologies such as the HDTV. Permanent diesel generators are also installed in the stadium to ensure uninterrupted power supply during games. Two giant LED screens – the biggest in India – provide scores, replays and other information. The safety aspects are well taken care of, with Axis cameras being installed, helps in monitoring the entire event.

Pitch and Outfield: During the preparation of the pitch, the entire clay was imported from South Africa. The ground has been prepared under proper guidance of Neil Tainton and John Klug from South Africa. The outfield in the D. Y. Patil Stadium is made of red soil. In order to minimize the interruption due to rains, the outfields are sand based. There is properly concealed drainage system that helps to remove the water quickly.

Safety Measurements: The stadium is designed to be earthquake-proof, with fire-fighting and evacuation facilities. The stadium provides air-conditioned media centre that can house 120 people, with modern communication systems and support facilities. Luxury suites are also available with attached rest rooms. This is mainly to ensure comfort for guests. The service of catering system is also available. There are actually 60 spacious and airy corporate boxes on the upper level of the viewing galleries.
