Dwarahat is a town in Almora district of the northern state Uttarakhand. It is situated at a distance of 32 km. from Ranikhet. Lying in the valley of Ram Ganga River the town is noted for its historical and archaeological importance. Dwarahat is located at 29.78 degree north latitude to 79.43 degree East Latitude. It has an average elevation of 1,510 metres.
According to the 2001 India census report, Dwarahat had a population of 2543 inhabitants. Males constitute 53 percent of the population while females constitute 47 percent of the population. In Dwarahat, 10 percent of the population is less than six years of age. The average literacy rate of the town is 82 percent much higher than the national average literacy rate of 59.5 percent. The male literacy rate is 86 percent and the female literacy rate is 78 percent.
The famous Shakti temple at Doonagiri is merely 10 km away from Dwarahat. It is believed that the mythical Sanjivani herb grows inside this temple premises. Naithna Devi Temple is also located in the vicinity.
