Early Life and Career of Drashti Dhami
Drashti Dhami was born on January 10, 1985 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, into a conservative Gujarati family. She completed her schooling from St. Immaculate Girl`s High School in Borivali, after which she opted for a degree in Sociology from Mithibai College in Mumbai. She started out modelling for many print and television advertisements, doing commercials for Colgate (toothpaste) with Saif Ali Khan, Lion Honey, Pulimoottil SILKS, Vasan Eye Care, RKS Grand (Shopping Mall), Amul, VIP Bags and jewellery. She made her debut in the entertainment industry by appearing in Harry Anand"s music video "Saiyyan Dil Mein Aana Re". She also appeared in the Punjabi music video "Nachle Soniye Tu" and in the remix version of "Humko Aaj Kal Hai Intezar". Having been a dance instructor earlier in life, Drashti also excels in Bollywood dance.
Television Career of Drashti Dhami
Drashti Dhami kicked off her television career with the supporting role of Dr. Muskaan Chadda in STAR One"s popular daily medical drama series "Dill Mill Gayye", from 2007 to 2009. She then appeared as the female lead Geet Maan Singh on STAR One"s daily soap opera "Geet - Hui Sabse Parayi", from 2010 to 2011. The show was a turning point in Drashti"s career and her role shot her to fame. In 2011, she also made a special appearance on Zee TV"s "Chhoti Bahu - Sawar Ke Rang Rachi", alongside Gurmeet Choudhary and SAB TV"s "Sajan Re Jhoot Mat Bolo" and a brief appearance through her dance performance on Colors TV"s "Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha" in 2012.
In 2012, Drashti played the titular role of Madhubala in Colors TV"s series "Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junoon", alongside Vivian Dsena. The show, which brought her further recognition and awards, aired till August 2014. In 2013, she became the winner of the 6th season of Indian dance reality show "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa", alongside choreographer Salman Yusuff Khan, and went on to host the 7th season of the show. She made a comeback to fiction TV in 2015, portraying the female lead of Rani Gayatri Devi and Savitri in Zee TV"s period drama "Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani", opposite Siddhant Karnick from July 2015 to May 2016. Drashti left the show when it took the leap, requiring her to play a mother, to which she stated, "It was a tough choice to make. I had to quit the show, as my character would change after the leap. I was asked to play a mother, and I am not comfortable doing so at the moment."
