Dowleswaram Barrage, Andhra PradeshThe Dowleswaram Barrage is built on the last stretch of the Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh. The barrage is an irrigation structure. The river Godavari empties into the Bay of Bengal flowing few miles after the Dowleswaram Barrage. A British irrigation engineer, Sir Arthur Thomas Cotton, built the well-known Dowleswaram Barrage. This project also averted famines and stimulated the economy of southern India.
