Districts of Telangana comprises of the districts like Adilabad district, Hyderabad district, Karimnagar district, Khammam district, Mahbubnagar district, Medak district, Sangareddi district, Nalgonda district, Nizamabad district, Ranga Reddy district, Warangal district.
Telangana is the newly formed state in India, separated from Andhra Pradesh. Known as 29th state in India, Telangana is the land licked state. Telangana is surrounded in its northwestern and northern directions by Maharashtra. Karnataka encircles the state towards the west and Chhattisgarh lies to its north eastern direction, to the east is Odisha.
Telangana is consisting of the parts carved out of the ten north-western districts of Andhra Pradesh. The city of Hyderabad is serving as the joint capital of Telangana and the remainder of Andhra Pradesh for ten years. Most part of Telangana lies on the Deccan plateau.
Before Independence of India, all these districts of Telangana were a part of Hyderabad state which had two divisions, Warangal and Medak, which are now the districts of Telangana, including bordering districts of Maharashtra and Karnataka. The state comprises 10 districts covering an area of 114,840square kilometres. The largest district is Mahaboobnagar District and the smallest is the Hyderabad in Hyderabad District.

Adilabad District
Adilabad is a district located in Telangana state. This district of Telangana is bounded by Yeotmal. In the east, lies Chanda District, on the south by Karimnagar District and Nizamabad district and on the west by Nanded district of Maharastra State. Adilabad is situated between 77.46 minutes and 80.01 minutes, of the eastern longitudes and 18.40minutes and 19.56 minutes of northern latitudes. Adilabad is the second largest district in the Telangana State. Adilabad district occupies an area of 16,128 square km. The Sahyadri Mountains or Satnala range traverses Adilabad district from the north-west to the south-east for about 281.5 kilometres. The rivers that drain the district are the Godavari River, Penganga River, Wardha River and Pranahita River.
Hyderabad District
Hyderabad District is located between 1degree 11 mins of the Northern Longitude and 78 degree 27 mins of the Eastern Longitude. Situated on the Deccan plateau, Hyderabad District, the smallest district in Telangana occupies an area of 217 square kilometres. Faluknama Palace, Charminar, Golconda Fort are some of the popular tourist attractions in Hyderabad districts. Besides the historical monuments in Telangana a number of religious buildings are also located with the region.
Karimnagar District
Karimnagar district is an important seat of education in the state of Telangana. Several well known intellectuals have been born in the region and consequently adds to the pride of the region. The educational institutes in Karimnagar district provide degree level qualifications in a variety of traditional and professional courses. Karimnagar district is also well known for its number of popular tourist destinations. Some of the temples in the district of Karimnagar are namely the Kaleshwaram Temple, Rajarajeswara Swamy Temple and many other temples.
Warangal District
Warangal District is located towards the northern part of Telangana and Warangal city is its district headquarters. This district is famous for the Toranas, built during the time of Kakatiya Dynastical rule. The district is located 157 kilometres away from the state capital Hyderabad. The district is well known for its wonderful lakes, magnificent temples and abundant wildlife.
Khammam District
Khammam district is located in the south-eastern part of the Indian sub-continent and is an important district in the state of Telangana. Khammam town is the district headquarters of Khammam District. The district is known for its ethnic life style. It can be said that Khammam district has a strong historical lineage and at the same time in the present day the district also continues with its process of advancement.
Mahbubnagar District
Largest district in Telangana, a newly formed state in India, Mahbubnagar or the Mehboobnagar district of Telangana is also known as Palamooru. Mahbubnagar town is the district headquarters. The district ranks first in the state of Telangana in terms of land area. The location of the district is strategic in the sense it is located only at a distance of 96 kilometers from the state capital Hyderabad. Mahbubnagar has been divided into 64 mandals under 4 Revenue Divisions.
Medak District
Medak is a district of the South Indian state of Telangana, a newly formed state. It is about 70 km from Hyderabad on the way to Mumbai. It comes under the meteorological subdivision of Telangana. Sangareddi is the district headquarters of Medak. It is a small district located 60 kilometers north of Hyderabad.
Nalgonda District
Nalgonda district is located towards the southern part of Telangana State. Previously the district was known by the name Nilagiri, the meaning of which is `blue hill`. Later on the district was named after Ala-ud-Din Bahman Shah after he had conquered the region. Other popular dynasties which had reigned over the district were the rulers of Satavahana dynasty, the Kakatiya Dynasty and the Mughal dynasty. Nalgonda district has been divided into 59 mandals under 4 Revenue Divisions. As far as the history of Nalgonda district is concerned it dates back to the Paleolithic Age. Gradually with passing time Nalgonda has moved towards advancement and development. As such Nalgonda has been influenced by a number of rulers and the district has strongly survived the ravages of time and human vandalism and till today has retained its pristine glory. The district of Nalgonda became a part of Andhra Pradesh on 1st November 1956. Later it included with Telangana.
Ranga Reddy district
Ranga Reddy district is located in the central part of the Deccan plateau, which is now in Telangana. Ranga Reddy district has been named after the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh K.V Ranga Reddy. On the 15th of August 1978 the Ranga Reddy district was formed. Ranga Reddy district can be called the rural hinterland of Hyderabad as it feeds the region with its supplies of raw materials. Now it is included with Telangana, a newly formed state.
Nizamabad district
Nizamabad district lies in Telangana. The early name of the district was Indhrapuri or Indhur and the district was formed in the year 1905. At that time, Nizamabad is located in Andhra Pradesh. Now it is enlisted in Telangana. The region of Nizamabad had been under the domination of rulers of Chalukya dynasty, Tughlaq dynasty and the Nizams of Hyderabad. The word Nizamabad has been derived from two words Nizam and Abad. The word "Abad" was a title which was used for the rulers of Hyderabad.
