Districts of PuducherryDistricts of Puducherry include Puducherry District, Karaikal District, Mahe District and Yanam District. These are the four main districts of Puducherry. These four administrative districts have several resemblances with the French colonies of the medieval and modern times. Districts of Puducherry are headed by experienced administrators. These administrative districts offer an ideal balance between modern infrastructural developments and rich traditional cultures. Mahe district in Puducherry has the smallest area and population. All the four districts of Puducherry retained borders of the French East India Company. These were organised as a Union Territory of Puducherry after the de facto transfer of French India territories to Union Government India, after the Independence of India (1947) in 1954.

Puducherry District
Puducherry District is an administrative district of union territory Puducherry. This district is the largest district in terms of both are and population. Puducherry District has several major towns like Puducherry, Kurumbapet, Ozhukarai and Ariyankuppam.

Karaikal District
Karaikal District is one of the four administrative districts of Puducherry in southern India. Karaikal town is the district headquarters. Other major towns of this district are Nagappattinam and Tarangambadi. Karaikal District has rich history associated with it.

Mahe District
Mahe District is an administrative district of Union Territory of Puducherry. This district includes the entire Mahe (Kerala) region. Mahe District is bounded by North Malabar. Area wise this district is the smallest district of Puducherry.

Yanam District
Yanam District is one of the administrative districts of Puducherry. This district is the smallest in terms of population. Further, Yanam District is considered as a Sub-Taluk of the union territory. Yanam town is the district headquarters.

Tourism in Districts of Puducherry
The tourism in the districts of Puducherry consists of the French influences. These colonial regions are mostly concentrated with the French architectures. Some of the tourism destinations like St. Luke - Sacred Heart Church, Karaikal Port, Karaikal Beach, Karaikal Ammayar Temple, Karaikal Ammaiyar Theppa Kulam, Consulate of France at Goubert Avenue, Rocky beaches, Gandhi Mandapam, Arulmigu Manakula Vinayagar Temple, Promenade Beach, Puducherry Beach, Old Lighthouse, Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Auroville, Kurumbapet and Bharathi Park.
