There are 14 revenue districts of Kerala and the state shares its borders with Karnataka on the north and Tamil Nadu on the south and east. The name of the most important city or town in almost all the districts of Kerala, shares the same name as the district itself, except for Wayanad district. The 14 districts are further segmented into 62 taluks, 999 revenue villages and 1007 Gram panchayats. Situated in the southern part of India, Kerala has the highest literacy rate and the longest life expectancy. It is the state which is well known for its rubber plantations. It is the most diverse state in terms of religion.

Alappuzha district also known as the Venice of the east is a district of immense natural beauty and therefore an ideal tourist destination.
Ernakulam district with 70% of the district under cultivation has dense forests in the eastern part.
Idukki and Kannur district are ideal tourist destinations.
Kasargod district is an important district as it produces important crops like cashew, arecanut, tobacco, rubber, ginger and tapioca.
Thiruvananthapuram district is renowned for its beaches, historic monuments backwater stretches and also for its rich flora ranging from rare orchids and medicinal plants.
Kozikhode district is well known for its abundant wild and marine life.
Kollam district is also known as the land of cashews and cashew processing is a major industry. Coir production, handloom industry, clay and wood based industries are the other industries which contribute to the industrial development of the region.
Kottayam district is an ideal tourist destination with its backwater stretches, lush paddy fields, and its vast network of rivers and canals.
Malappuram District is pregnant with various species of wildlife and the topography consists of hills, forests, streams, backwaters etc. cultivation and plantation of coconut, paddy, cashew nut, arecanut, banana, ginger, pepper, rubber etc. are most developed here.
Palakkad district is a hotspot for tourists with the Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, with its abundant wildlife, the Nelliyampathy hills and the Kattilmadam temple on the Pattambi- Guruvayoor road.
Panthanamthitta district is largely based on agriculture. The main crops grown here are paddy, tapioca, rubber, sugarcane, pepper and banana. It is also known for its rubber plantations.
Thrissur district has a rich cultural tradition. The district attracts large masses of devotees from all parts of the state and even outside for the colourful temple festival known as the Thrissur Pooram.
Wayanad district is covered with vast stretches of forest reserves. An idyllic tourist destination the major attractions of the district are the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary and the Sentinel Rock Waterfall at Vellarimala village.
