Dipavali Habba is a festival celebrated in the memory of two renowned giants named Bala Chakravarti and Narakasura. Narakasura had become the curse for the human race and polluted the earth with his crimes. Finally, Lord Vishnu had to take avatar to kill this demon.
The word Dipavali Habba signifies the Feast of Lamps. During this festival, the Hindus light a large number of lamps round the door of their houses. Paper lanterns are also made, which people hang in the streets. For the husbandmen, the festival of Dipavali Habba is different. Their way of celebration differs from that of the others. The festival is celebrated during the harvest time so they gather in the ragi fields and offer prayers or sacrifices. Some sacrifice is offered to the dunghill to enrich the ground. The offerings consist of burning lamps, fruits, or flowers, which are deposited, in the mass of ordure.
