Dhauti karma is swallowing of a strip of cloth which is made moist with warm water through the passage directed by Guru. By practicing Dhauti Karma cough, asthma, enlargement of the spleen, leprosy, and other kinds of diseases born of phlegm disappear.
When Dhauti is practiced in combination then it cleans the entire digestive tract and respiratory tract. It also helps in removing excess and old bile, mucus and toxins and restores the natural balance of the body"s chemical composition. It also helps remove infectious bacteria from the mouth, nose, eyes, ears, throat, stomach, intestines and anus. It is also said that Dhauti cures leprosy. It is also known to cure abdominal ailments and fever. However under certain conditions like stomach ulcers, hernia, heart disease, and high blood pressure this should not be practiced.
