D`Ering Wildlife Sanctuary, situated in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, was established in the year 1976. It is precisely located at a distance of about 16 kilometers from Pasighat town towards its south east. The sanctuary was previously known as Lali Wildlife Sanctuary after the declaration of Lali Reserve Forest as a sanctuary. It was renamed as D`Ering in the year 1986. D`Ering has been categorized into three ranges namely Barghuli, Sibiamukh and Anchalghat and is under the administration of the Divisional Forest Officer based at Pasighat. The sanctuary was established with the aim of preserving crocodiles.
Geography of D`Ering Wildlife Sanctuary
D`Ering Wildlife Sanctuary enjoys a tropical climate and receives north-east and south-west monsoons. Between the period of July and September, the place receives annual rainfall of more than 2,000 mm. Average temperature of the region during winter is 7 degree Celsius and during summer is 35 degree Celsius.
Flora of D`Ering Wildlife Sanctuary
D`Ering Wildlife Sanctuary mainly comprises reverine plains and the vegetation has a floristic composition. Thatch and grasses constitute a major portion of the sanctuary. The woodland of the sanctuary includes scattered patches of trees like Termenelia myriocarpa, Dillenia indica, Albizia spp., Bombax ceiba and others. Species of hedges including Timbristysic spp., Geripus spp. and Cyperus spp. can also be spotted here.
Fauna of D`Ering Wildlife Sanctuary
D`Ering Wildlife Sanctuary shelters a vast variety of fauna. Mammals in the sanctuary are represented by Hog Deer, Wild Pig, Tiger and Elephant. More than 150 species of birds are the inhabitants of the sanctuary including the endangered ones like White-Winged Wood Duck and Bengal Florican. Grassland-dependent bird species are also found here like Black-breasted Parrotbill, Jerdon`s Babbler and Swamp Francolin. A plethora of migratory birds can also be spotted in the sanctuary. Numerous Mugger Crocodiles are found in the fresh water of the sanctuary. Other species found here are Sambar, Nilgai, Python, Cheetal, Wild Boar, Sloth Bear, Langur, Panther, Tiger and many more.
