Deori is a beautiful city in the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh. This town is four hundred years old and is situated on the banks of the Sukhchain River. On the south east of Deori is Sagar, the district headquarters located at a distance of 64km. and on its northeast is Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh at a distance of 240 km.

The nearest airport is at Bhopal and the Sagar railway station is the nearest railway station. National Highway 26 (NH 26) passes through Deori. Deori is located between 21.45° North latitude and 80.85° East longitude. It is located at a height of 360 metres (1181 feet) above mean sea level.

Previously Deori was known as Ramgarh or Ujargarh and was founded by the Chandela king in the 17th century. However after the construction of a temple this town was renamed as Deori, which means `abode of God`.

According to the 2001 census report, Deori had a population of 23,812 inhabitants. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. In Deori, 15% of the population is less than six years of age. Deori has an average literacy rate of 70%, which is higher than the national average of 59.5%. The male literacy rate is 77% and, female literacy rate is 63%.

The ancient fort built by the Chandela Raja, Noradehi Wildlife Sanctuary, Khurai, Nainagiri, Rahatgarh and Rehli are suitable short interesting excursion sites in the neighbourhood.
