Early life and Career of Deepak Thakur
Deepak Thakur Sonkhla was born on 28th December in the year 1980 in Bhamowal, Hoshiarpur. Deepak Thakur Sonkhla completed his education from Mount Shivalik Public School, Una (Himachal Pradesh) and is a Bachelor of Arts from Mahendra College, Patiala.

Career in Hockey for Deepak Thakur
He is an alumnus of the SAI Sports Development Training Centre, Patiala. He was there from 1993 to 94; after that at the Air India Hockey Academy at Delhi. He is currently playing for the Indian Oil Corporation team.

Deepak Thakur made his international debut in the year 1997 for the Men`s National Hockey Team under 21 in a test series against Russia. He was nicknamed as Happy. Deepak Thakur represented the country in two consecutive Summer Olympics, in 2000 and 2004.

Deepak Thakur at the Hyderabad Afro-Asian GamesHe has performed memorably in almost all levels of the game: in the 2001 Junior World Cup, which India won, he scored a hat trick in the final, and consequently became the top scorer of the tournament, and distinguished himself in the 2002 Asian games where India placed 2nd. He is especially known for a deadly reverse hit.

He is working presently in the Indian Oil Corporation, and plays for its team. He has played for HTC Stuttgart foreign club at Stuttgart from Aug 2007 to Oct 2007. He was awarded the Arjuna Puraskar in 2004 for his contributions to Indian Hockey.
