For the inaugural edition, the team finished last in the IPL, but went on to win the second edition of the tournament, under successful leadership of Captain Adam Gilchrist, who captained the team for the third season as well. However, from fourth season onwards, Kumar Sangakkara has been leading the team and Cameron White has been the Vice-Captain. The team is coached by Darren Lehmann, former Australian Test and One-Day Cricketer.

The Deccan Chargers franchise is owned by the Deccan Chronicle Holdings Limited. The official team logo for the Chargers is a charging bull.
