Damdama Lake, Gurgaon District, HaryanaDamdama Lake is a natural reservoir in Sohna. It is a small town of Gurgaon district of Haryana. Damdama Lake is one of the biggest lakes in Haryana. It covers an area of 3,000 acres of land that is 12.14 square kilometres.

Damdama Lake was formed when the feudal rulers of British East India Company created a stone and earthen dam for conservation of rain water. This dam was formed in the year 1947.

Damdama Lake is fed by the monsoon rain coming from Aravalli range, a residual mountain of west India. The lake is held by an embankment. The water level of Damdama Lake is 20 feet during summer and winter times. While in rainy season, the water level raises high up to 50 to 60 feet.

Damdama Lake is located with the topography of deep undulation, rugged and mountainous areas. The shape of the lake is like the shape of an amoeba, a unicellular living organism. The best time to visit Damdama Lake is from October to March. The summer temperature is generally hot and arid, reaching up to 45 to 47 degree Celsius.

Damdama Lake is a natural and peaceful abode of local and exotic migratory birds and more than 190 species of birds visit here during autumn and winter seasons. Some of the major birds seen here are water fowl, cranes, cormorants, terns, egrets, kingfishers. The vast pasture near Damdama Lake is the home for bull and peacocks. Damdama Lake not only offers ecotourism and leisure tourists to its visitors, but also this lake offers wide range to flora and fauna. Near Damdama Lake, there is a very old Shiva Temple built during the medieval times by the feudal rulers of Bharatpur (Gwalior).

Surrounded by the Aravali Mountains, Damdama Lake is one of the popular picnic spot to spend the weekend away from the metropolis in a calm and beautiful atmosphere. In the tranquil location near Damadama Lake, one can enjoy boating in row boats, paddle boats and motor boats. Damdama Lake is also famous for its splendid adventure sports facilities such as parasailing, kayaking, cycling, angling, rock climbing, valley crossing and many others, which attracts the local and outland tourists.
