Concept of Human Body
Human Body has been described by Lord Vishnu to Garuda in Garuda Purana. According to the description human body is made of seven entities.

Human Body is composed of blood, skin, fat, flesh, marrow, bone and life. There are five elements and they are earth, water, energy, wind and the sky. The human body is made of each of these elements. Element earth forms the skin, the bones, the veins, the hair and the flesh. The element water forms saliva, blood and marrow. Energy arouses hunger, sleep, thirst, lethargy and shine. The element wind produces anger, ill will, modesty, fear and ignorance. The element sky forms holes, gravity, hearing and mind.

There are several faculties. The senses of intelligence are the skin, the ears, the tongue, the eyes and the nose. The senses of action are the feet, the hands and speech. The body has ten veins and they are pingala, gandhari, ida, sushumna, hastijihva, yasha, pusha, kuhu, alambusha and shankhini. The ten types of breath in the body are prana, apana,samana, udana, vyana, naga, kurma, krikara, devadatta and dhananjaya. There are three and a half crore body-hair on a human body and there are three lakh hairs on the head. A man has thirty two teeth and twenty nails. Pala is the unit of measurement and there are one thousand palas of flesh in the body, one hundred palas of blood, ten palas of fat, ten palas of skin and twelve palas of marrow.

Human body and universe has a complete correspondence. The portion below the waist is the patala, balls of the feet correspond to region tala, the ankles to vitala, the calves to sutala, the knees to talatala, the thighs to rasatala and the waist to patala. The navel to bhuloka, the stomach tobhuvarloka, the heart to svarloka, the throat to maharloka, the face to janaloka, the forehead to tapoloka and the top of the head to satyaloka.
