Coimbatore Medical College, Tamil NaduThe Coimbatore Medical College (CMC) is an autonomous medical institute, situated in Coimbatore in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. However, the institute is autonomous only regarding its academic operations and the college is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr M G R Medical University. The CMC was established in the year of 1966 and it is popularly known as the CMC Coimbatore. The college was established after some leading Industrial families of the city donated the required land to the then Tamil Nadu state government under the Chief Minister K. Kamaraj. The college is recognised by the Medical Council of India and is being run and managed by the State Government of Tamil Nadu.

The Coimbatore Medical College (CMC) has already established itself as one of the best known medical colleges in this region. It is also a forerunner to many of the Medical and Health care systems established in the city. The Government Head Quarters Hospital is attached to the college and has also converted into a teaching Medical Institution. The Coimbatore Medical College (CMC) was initially affiliated to the Madras University and it was transferred to Bharathiar University, at a later period. However, the college was eventually affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr M G R Medical University.

The Coimbatore Medical College (CMC) provides the students and researchers a variety of facilities. The college has more than 30 departments with individual libraries and full fledged medical laboratories and it offers Preclinical courses and Elective Postings at the under-graduate, post-graduate and post-graduate super specialities level. The college provides separate accommodation for the male and female students. The under-graduate courses that the Coimbatore Medical College (CMC) offers include the main course of MBBS. The degree courses of CMC include M.D General Medicine, M.S. General Surgery, MS (Ophthalmologist), apart from the Diploma courses like D.G.O, D.C.H and D.A. The CMC offer M.Ch. in Paediatric Surgery and Para Medical Courses like Diploma in Nursing, Diploma in Pharmacy, as well.
