Climax Lawrence plays as a midfielder. Currently Lawrence is playing for Dempo S.C. He is also appointed as the captain of the Indian national football team. East Bengal midfielder Climax Lawrence has been named captain for the last and inconsequential 2006 World Cup qualifier against Oman on November 17 in Muscat. For the 2006 World Cup qualifier against Oman, when the AIFF released a list of 24 probable for the camp, Climax Lawrence as midfielder was included in the list. For the World Cup qualifier against Singapore, when the All India Football Federation released a list of 24 probable, that time Climax Lawrence was suspended for the match.
Early Life of Climax Lawrence
Climax Lawrence was born on 16th January, in the year 1979, in Margao, Goa, India. He started playing the football when he was as young as 12 years. In the year 1998 Lawrence signed a contract for Salgaocar SC. For his skill and motivation, in his initial season Salgaocar won the National Football League (NFL). Climax Lawrence joined the East Bengal team after 5 years, in 2004. He joined Dempo S.C. the following season and won the last NFL season. He also won the opening I-League season as well. Lawrence also played for the Dempo team at the 2008 AFC Cup and made it to the semi finals. He also won the 2009-2010 I-League for Dempo S.C. Climax Lawrence represented Goa and later India at Under-19 level. Eventually he signed his first professional contract with Vasco.
Career of Climax Lawrence
Climax Lawrence used to play as a striker through out his youth career. After he left Vasco and joined Salgaocar in 1998, the ace player was renewed to a midfielder by Coach Marcos Pacheto. Climax won the National Football League title during his first season with Salgaocar. He also won three other domestic cups, namely Durand Cup, Rovers Cup and Super Cup. In the 2002-2003 sessions, he showed his best form by helping the team finish runner-up in the League. Lawrence won the Rovers Cup and Goa League titles. In the year 2004, Climax Lawrence went to Kolkata and joined the reputed East Bengal team. Due to his improved performance as a midfielder, the East Bengal team won 3 trophies, which were Durand Cup, Kolkata Premier League and the San Miguel International Cup, Nepal. But he played for only one season for East Bengal and eventually he returned to Goa and was signed by Dempo. In 2005, the Indian footballer helped Goa to win the Santosh Trophy and also performed well and helped in winning the SAFF Cup. He was judged as the AIFF Player of the Year in 2005.
Climax Lawrence joined the Indian national football team in the year 2002 at the invitation of Coach Stephen Constantine. Lawrence scored the winning goal against Afghanistan to help gain victory in the AFC Challenge Cup.
